Scientific Studies of the unique properties of East Cape Manuka oil and Active Manuka UMF® honey has led to the development of a range of wonderful healing and moisturizing oils and creams for repairing damaged skin and to protect and enhance healthy skin.
It is now widely accepted by the medical community that the New Zealand Manuka plant (Leptospermum scoparium) (which is native to New Zealand and not found or cultivated elsewhere in the world) has unique antibacterial and antifungal properties exhibited in both the Active Manuka UMF® Honey and the East Cape Manuka oil that are really beneficial for a number of ailments and to promote health and vitality of the skin.
For centuries the Maori people and early European settlers of New Zealand knew of the therapeutic qualities of the Manuka plant, described in the History of Manuka, but only recently have scientists identified the active ingredient in East Cape Manuka Oil and substantiated its effectiveness in scientific studies.

We describe the recent history of the Manuka species and its changing status from being considered a weed that encroached on valuable farming land to its recognition as one of the great medicinal plants amongst New Zealand’s unique flora.
The outstanding success and world wide recognition of Active Manuka UMF® Honey in Medicine can be largely attributed to the work of Dr Peter Molan MBE, Associate Professor in Biochemistry at The University of Waikato New Zealand, who has researched into the healing properties of honey since 1981.
 Both Manuka oil from plants in the East Cape region of New Zealand and Active Manuka honey, specifically honey with a high “Unique Manuka Factor®” (UMF®) have undergone extensive scientific evaluation and have been found to be highly effective in controlling a range of bacterial and fungal organisms.

Conditions of Use: We are not aware of any cases of allergenic reaction to East Cape Manuka oil; however consumers are advised to test all products on a small area of skin prior to applying larger quantities. Essential oil should be kept out of reach of children, and should not be swallowed under any circumstances. Manuka honey may contain traces of pollen. We advise testing on a small area of a wound prior to applying larger quantities, or if used for throat or stomach infections, to take half a teaspoon initially, before continuing treatment, to ensure that no allergenic reaction occurs.
